The Banff Centre Bliss Carman Poetry Award 2011

I won second place in The Banff Centre Bliss Carman Poetry Award 2011 for my poem On Lake Winnipeg.

The judge was Sylvia Legris, 2006 Griffin Poetry Prize winner for her book Nerve Squall. Prairie Fire A Canadian Magazine of New Writing will publish the winning poems in Vol. 33 No. 2 in the summer 2012 issue.

Bliss Carman was born in 1861 in Fredericton New Brunswick and later became known as a Confederation Poet. The newly-formed Canadian Author's Association crowned him as Canada's Poet Laureate with a wreath of maple leaves at the Ritz Carleton Hotel in Montreal on October 28, 1921. His lyric poetry focused chiefly on nature.

Here is the list of prize winners:

First Prize: 'fashion' Sue Goyette, Halifax NS

Second Prize: 'On Lake Winnipeg' Janice Colbert, Toronto ON

Third Prize: 'Home Bus' Sadie McCarney, Fredericton NB

Honourable Mention: 'On the Road to Golders Green' Sue Sorensen, Winnipeg MB

Thank you to Sylvia Legris, Prairie Fire Press, The Banff Centre and McNally Robinson Booksellers.

Congratulations to all the winners!
