Brittany is the westernmost point of France and covers an area of six percent of French territory. Originally extensive forests covered almost all of inland Brittany and so we see extensive use of wood for building material.

To continue with my short hand sketchbook here are images of the timber-framed houses found in medieval Rennes and Quimper. I find inspiration in the timbers for colour and the geometries endless variation on pattern.
