No Geography Without Stars I

No Geography Without Stars, In Situ

Here is an image of NO GEOGRAPHY WITHOUT STARS I, in situ.

I consider this work in situ in reference to the painting definition, where I create large works (42 x 48 and 48 x 72 inch) for a known site; dining rooms or lofts. In this dining room the wall is 13.5 feet wide.

I seek to juxtapose my work with classic furnishings. The furniture is Gibbard of Napanee/Canadian Legacy Queen Anne solid mahogany. The table-cloth is Le Jacquard Français, the area carpet is Chinese and the upholstered chairs are Kate Ada/The Jubilee Collection/Liberty Art Fabrics.

The furnishings core is in travel and history that is also the back story to the No Geography Without Stars series. I travel extensively and the core content of this work comes from Galileo; where ever we travel the constellations remain the same.

Gibbard Furniture, Canada's oldest furniture maker, began 32 years before Confederation and produced fine craftmanship solid mahogany or cherry furniture for over 170 years. Their furniture graces many of Canada's embassies and consulates abroad.  Unfortunately the company is now-defunct.

The Le Jacquard Français/Primrose Bordier table-cloth is from the Printemps Department Store in Paris.

A summer trip to London during the Queen's Diamond Jubilee included buying 3 yards of fabric for the dining room chairs at Liberty of London.

The Chinese carpet, that has been in the home for decades is from the also defunct Eaton's Department Store.

I enjoy the luxurious combination of layers that set the scene in the dining room for the family's holiday weekend.
